History

Saxon Church - Bradford on Avon Tourism Association St Margaret's Hall is situated on the South bank of the river Avon in the centre of Bradford on Avon which is conveniently located being less than 10 miles from Bath.

It is a town steeped in history with evidence of Roman and Saxon settlements. In the Middle Ages the wool trade became the main source of income of the town which built up expertise in the weaving and dying of broad cloth.

Weavers cottages from the 16th and 17th Centuries on the northern slopes form the character of the town and the famous Tithe barn is a short walk away.

The hall was built in the late eighteenth century as a specialist dyers house. It became a cinema in 1904 and more recently a community hall.

Bradford on Avon Town Council took over the hall from West Wiltshire District Council in April 2001 and planning permission was received in August 2002 for the Town Council offices to be installed in the ancillary rooms of the hall with a small extension. This work is planned for the early part of 2003 and it is hoped that there will be minimum adverse impact on users during the building work.
